My first mix here was dedicated to my Father so this one’s for Mum seeing as its Mothers Day and all. This has a slower build up than Star Surfer but really kicks in for the final 4 tracks. I would dr» More..

Thanks Max glad you enjoyed it. I like your DJ name - I have spent hours playing the PC games of the character! Next mix I will aim to be more technically accurate.

Hay really liked this mix, I like you vocal selection it was great, some really uplifting tracks, one of the mixes was abit out and you tried to save it, sometimes it's best not to if it's taking to long, doing that is a good way to ruin the flow of your mix, however this did not distract my enjoyment of the set, good job and I look forward to hearing more from you.

OK, maybe its a grower and you will like it better on the 2nd pass. I too go for 128 BPM as a start point after I ran some numbers on my collection only to find 128 BPM was the average for most House styles. This allows you to reach out to more tracks at +/- 8 BPM without ruining the intended feel of the track. One of my pet hates in clubs are when DJ's attempt to mix in tracks at stupid BPM's way off their originals with vocals sounding rubbish etc. I like to think the Producers set their BPM's to suit the style of the track! Progressive is so good for mixing because you get regular 32 beat or 16 beat phrases. However, sometimes you can pull off non phased mixes which just work - trial and error!

I need to listen to both of them again but I found with Star Surfer I wanted to listen to it again straight away, however with Event Horizon I didn't, but thought I'll listen again in a few days. With regard to the beat/bar structure I just usually count the 4 beat pattern. As I often do my mixes at 128 BPM, that means if the tracks are DJ friendly then changes should be at an even 15 sec, 30 secs, 1 minute etc I usually make a note of the tracks with irregular bar structures. That's just my point of view though, others may disagree ;-)

Where able to listen it (second time) only now. Not many trance as i prefer, but still very nice tunes and mix itself. Agree with the rest of the guys here...Star Surfer gets 5 (: Looking forward to see more of your mixes and thanx for sharing this !

Thanks All. I see what Socio is saying about the 4th Transition, I have the snare drum beat mismatched into the second track which while not really unpleasant to the ear is not as good as it could be. OK, must try harder!

we all have our ups and downs! quite good mix friend...the first takes the 5*, keep it up!

What was it about Star Surfer you liked better? Always appreciate constructive feedback so I can improve my mixing skills. How do you count your beat patterns exactly - do you count in the first at the begging of a 32 beat phrase or b the 4 bar beat pattern? Sometimes I find mixing in the midddle of a phrase can actually "sound" better - at least to my ears!

from Socio Phobic DJ, March 15, 2010 08:28 AM
A good mix but I don't think I enjoyed it as much as Star Surfer. At 25:10 I'm still a bit unsure about the off beat matching (i.e 1st beat of current track lined up with the 2nd or 3rd beat of the cued track). But still enjoyable and worth a few more listens.

Oh, second mix. Going to download this first...Interesting tracklist, looking forward to listen (:

Cool high energy but accessible music that refuses to let you stay still in your body or imagination. I like to create mixes which are dreamy, funky, sexy, cosmic (?), and above all fun and great to dance to.
