DJ Mix Network - FAQ
General Service
What is the DJ Mix Network?
This is a place for DJs to upload their mixes, share them with their friends, and listen to them anywhere. Get feedback on your mixes through mix ratings and comments, and track how many downloads your mix is getting.
How do I upload my mixes?
Once you've registered or joined, and created an artist profile, you may upload your mixes using the integrated upload manager from within your account. This is a java application that will run within your browser window. If it's your first time using this applet, you will have to accept the security dialog box to 'run' the applet. Most modern broswers come with Java, however if you do not have Java installed on your browser you may get it here.
Once the Java is running you will see a left pane window and a right pane. The left pane is your local system. Locate the mp3 mix file (not directory) you want to upload, highlight the file by clicking on it, and upload by selecting the right arrows >>
A progress box will tell you how long it takes to upload. When the upload is complete the mix file will be shown in the right pane. This is the remote system, and it means your file was successfully uploaded. You must then Publish Your Mix for it to appear in the Network.
How do I Publish a Mix?
Publishing a Mix is easy! Once you've encoded and uploaded your mix files, you must add additional information about the mix for it to become live on the network. Add your mix information, the title, description, tracklisting, and upload a cover image. Thats it, you're done!
How do I play/stream mixes from my website or myspace?
To create a custom mix player from within your account, go to Players to create a new config. Select a skin and other options for your player. When you are done, simply copy the embed code to your website or myspace!

What is FTP?
FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. Think of it as just another way to transfer files securely across the internet. Your browser uses HTTP protocol to navigate the internet and connect to website servers. Other applications use FTP to connect and transfer files across the internet from FTP servers. Examples of FTP software are, cute ftp, filezilla, and the Java uploader.
I get a java message box that says unable to upload one or more files
If your Java is loading, but you are unable to upload, you may have reached your account space limit. Check your files page from within your account to see how much space you are using. Upgrade to more space at anytime through the join page.
I tried uploading a mix it says Java failed, what am I doing wrong?
You may not have the latest version of Java installed on your computer. You can check this by going here to download and install the latest version.
If it has worked for you in the past, the first thing to try is to delete your browser cache (temporary files / private data) and restart your browser and computer.
Help! My Mix sounds super-fast (or slow) in the mix player!
This is a known bug with non-standard sample rates, and the flash mp3 plugin. This is an issue with flash itself and not with the mix player. Encode your files using a standard sampling rate of 44.1kHz (44,100Hz) and it should play just fine.
I want to upload but I can't locate the file. How do I find my mixes if they are in iTunes?
You'll need to find the location on your computer where the file is at. From your iTunes, right click on the file you want to find, and go to 'Get Info' and at the bottom it will say 'Where' the location of the file is.
Navigate to that location from the left pane of the Java uploader, to the drive and the folder location the file is at. Highlight the file and click the right arrows >> to start the upload. You'll see a progress box telling you how long it will take.
When it's done, the file will appear on the right pane, this is the remote system and means your file was successfully uploaded.
Now publish your mix, and you're done!
I just published my mix.. How long does it take for it to appear online?
Mixes will appear online immediately upon publishing. Just be sure to fill in all appropriate details about your mix, including a good description and tracklist. Avoid using strange characters or quotes in your file names or mix titles.
What if my mix contains Explicit Language?
If your mix contains explicit or other language some users might find inappropriate, plese select this box when you publish your mix. This will notify users that your mix contains Explicit Language.

What is a cue sheet? How do I use one?
A cue sheet (or cue file) is a text file that tells the cd burning program where the tracks begin. A cue sheet will let you create tracks on a CD from a continuously mixed file. Its format can be easily created using any text editor. For more explanation on how to write a proper cue sheet for cd burning, see here.
Do u host .zip files for tracked mixes?
There is no need to support this. We support the use of cue sheets instead, which are much better anyway. See above question on how to use and create a cue sheet.
What audio file types do you support?
There are many types of compressed audio files, but MP3 is by far the industry standard so that is what we support.
How long does it take for my profile to be approved?
There are no profile approvals! Before you can upload mixes however, you must fill in a complete DJ/artist profile including adding a description about yourself and uploading a photo or image.
